WASHINGTON, D.C (LifeSiteNews) — Following Jim Jordan’s failure Friday to garner enough votes keep the GOP nomination for Speaker of the House, strongly pro-life Florida Republican Byron Donalds announced his candidacy for the House gavel.

Donalds states on own website:

I believe, as stated in our Declaration of Independence, that each person is endowed by our Creator with certain unalienable rights. The first among those is the right to life. Every life is valuable, from conception to natural death, and I will fight to protect the life of every unborn child without exception.

I understand an abortion has countless victims. I have voted for and strongly support laws requiring parental consent for abortions, funding for pregnancy resource centers, and increased medical restrictions on abortion clinics – but these are simply not enough. In Congress, I will work with my colleagues to turn the culture in our country against the killing of innocent unborn children and I pledge to always be a strong voice and advocate for life.

Townhall reported that “according to close sources, Donalds will seek support in a closed-door GOP conference vote, which could occur as soon as Monday.”

On Capitol Hill, Friday’s third and decisive vote on the House Floor saw Jim Jordan lose even more support than he had before, netting just 194 backers. Florida Congressman Matt Gaetz as well as the seven other lawmakers he rallied to remove former speaker Kevin McCarthy offered to be censured, suspended, or removed from the House GOP conference in order to secure Jordan’s speakership but it was not enough.

Donalds has received a 100% rating from the Florida Right to Life and is endorsed by the Florida Family Action. Susan B. Anthony (SBA) has also given him an A rating for his defense of life from conception.

Commending his consistent pro-life stance, SBA says of the Florida Republican:

Congressman Donalds has stood up against the pro-abortion agenda of the Biden-Harris administration and Pelosi Democrats who are actively working to expand abortion access and abortion funding. Rep. Donalds has voted consistently to defend the lives of the unborn and infants. This includes stopping hard-earned tax dollars from paying for abortion, whether domestically or internationally, and protecting health care provider rights for those who refuse to engage in brutal abortions.

In May 2022, Byron Donalds (R-FL) was named the most conservative Florida Republican lawmaker in Florida by the Conservative Review. He received a 100 percent score. Conservative Review based their score on Donald’s voting record, which includes opposing the $40 billion aid package to Ukraine, Biden’s vaccine mandates, legislation to codify Roe v. Wade into federal law, legislation to codify same-sex marriage and ban states from supporting traditional marriage, a contraception bill, including women in a military draft, raising the debt limit, and the progressive equality act.

Following the historic Dobbs decision of the Supreme Court, Donalds praised the ruling in a press release, stating:

Despite unprecedented intimidation, intrusion, and undermining of the U.S. Supreme Court by the Democratic Party and their friends in the pro-abortion lobby, an overwhelming majority of the Court finally overturned 50 years of unsound law and judicial overreach established under Roe. In one of the most pro-democracy rulings in modern history, the Court ruled that the issue of abortion should reside in the hands of the people – instead of nine unelected black robes in D.C.

Today’s Democratic Party is the party of abortion on demand and without limits, including the unconscionable practice of infanticide. This ideology is sick, perverse, and erodes our nation’s moral compass. The Women’s Health Protection Act of 2022 is an affront to our system of Checks and Balances and blatantly ignores the Court’s ruling which allows states – not Congress – to enact abortion-related policy. This bill will also impose the radical pro-abortion policies of California and New York on states like Florida, Texas, and North Carolina, where extreme abortion extensions aren’t supported.

The U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling is clear, regulating abortion is the job of the states, not the federal government. I will vote NO on any effort to expand abortion access in America.

The Floridan reported in December 2022, that “Donalds has always opposed the same-sex marriage bill and believes that the [bill] is nothing more than a political ploy by Democrats.”

Criticizing Obamacare, Donalds dubbed it “a thinly veiled attempt at a government takeover of the health insurance delivery system, ultimately leading to a single-payer socialist system.”

In January of this year, Donalds was nominated by Congressman Chip Roy of Texas for Speaker of the House. Roy got two standing ovations from both sides of the aisle in the House, including from then contender for gavel Kevin McCarthy when he said, “For the first time in history there have been two Black Americans placed into the nomination for speaker of the House.”
