(LifeSiteNews) – A biologically male triple murderer began serving his life sentence in a women’s prison last month, thanks to the permissive gender laws of far-left California.

California LGBT activist David Wakefield, who later “transitioned” to living as a woman named Dana Rivers, was arrested in 2016 for slaying a lesbian couple and their 19-year-old son. “Police said the two women were both stabbed and shot, and the man was stabbed. They were pronounced dead at the scene,” the Sacramento Bee reported at the time. “Police said Rivers was covered in blood and about to ride away on [Charlotte] Reed’s motorcycle when she was arrested.”

Wakefield/Rivers, a former teacher, surgical and chemical “transition” recipient, and San Francisco “pride” parade honorary marshal, was sentenced to life in prison on June 14 and incarcerated at Central California Women’s Facility two days later, The Daily Wire reported. California has allowed biological males to be housed with female inmates since 2021.

“There was something truly vile about the way this was carried out and his obvious hatred of her,” said Kara Dansky, who protests holding men like Rivers with female prisoners. “My feeling from knowledge of the case is that he killed her because he couldn’t be her and he shouldn’t be in prison with other women.”

Actual female prisoners “get very anxious when a [trans-identifying man] gets processed in,” agreed Amie Ichikawa, who served five years in Central on drug charges and is now an activist against gender-fluid inmate policies. “Even when they’re post-op, if they get mad they go right back to angry man mode.”

In recent years, there has been growing concern around the world over placing men who claim to be women in female prison populations, which has proven to be a means of both securing lighter treatment during incarceration and gaining easy access to women to prey upon.

In May, conservative investigative journalist James O’Keefe released an interview with Federal Bureau of Prisons psychologist Dr. Linda Noelle, who says that “male and female prisoners “both play the victim card” to obtain gender “reassignment” surgeries at taxpayer expense. “And then they go through [the far-left American Civil Liberties Union], and then the ACLU sues the [U.S. Department of Justice]” when demands for subsidized transition procedures are initially rejected, Noelle told O’Keefe. “And the DOJ, unfortunately, under Merrick Garland, it rolls over. It doesn’t go through the courts, so they just pay people off.”
