Build a memorial park for abortion victims: LifeFunder.com

CHARLESTON, West Virginia (LifeSiteNews) – A group of pro-life West Virginians has purchased land across the street from the state’s only abortion facility to establish a pro-life memorial park to dissuade women from considering abortion.

We had about a month and half to raise $200,000, and a lot of people said it was impossible,” said Missy Ciccarello, president of the Kanawha-Putnam County Chapter of West Virginians for Life. “But we know with God, all things are possible, and when [the fundraiser] started, it just caught on fire, really, truly.”

The purchase amps up the remarkable pro-life presence near the so-called Women’s Health Center of West Virginia, located in Charleston. According to group Pastor Phillip Dunn, the facility has aborted an estimated 60,000 babies over more than four decades.

Monday, Wednesday, and Friday I come and pray, especially for the workers,” said Dunn about his pro-life ministry. “I try to stay until I can’t feel my toes.”

Fortunately, Dunn is not alone in his pro-life work at the corners of Washington Street and Greendale Drive. Woman’s Choice pregnancy center, which provides pregnancy support services and alternatives to abortion, flanks the abortion mill on its opposite side, adjacent to its parking lot.

In fact, West Virginians for Life counsel and pray outside the abortion mill so regularly that even a drive on Google maps using its street view application shows pro-lifers outside of it.

The abortion clinic tried to buy [the parcel] out from under us, but God prevailed,” said Ciccarello. “He’s just a miracle worker, and we give him all the praise. We don’t take any of the credit. It was all Him.”

Despite its victorious acquisition of the Charleston lot, the group acknowledges that considerable challenges lie ahead in planning for the pro-life park.

Data found on the statistics conglomeration website crimegrade.org show that the property borders one of Charleston’s high-crime areas. Crosses and pro-life signs put up by the group have already been torn down or vandalized numerous times.

Nevertheless, this pro-life contingent recognizes the fundamental spiritual nature of this fight and remains unshakably committed.

I believe it is a miracle,” said Elizabeth Gill a member of West Virginians for Life, speaking about the property and its potential. “I mean just a few months ago, it was nothing more than just a vacant lot, but now it’s got a promise of being something very special to a lot of people. Hopefully, they will feel like coming and praying and it will be a place that will bring peace and speak life to the community.”
