(LifeSiteNews) — U.S. Representative Tim Ryan (D – OH), who is running against Republican J.D. Vance to become a U.S. Senator for Ohio, has previously backed government-funded “gender transitions” for prisoners as well as illegal immigrants.

During his run as a presidential candidate in the 2019 Democratic primary, Ryan indicated on an American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) questionnaire that, as president, he would ensure that “transgender” individuals receive “comprehensive” gender transition services, including surgery, according to Blaze News.

Ryan had checked “Yes” in response to the question, “As President will you use your executive authority to ensure that transgender and non-binary people who rely on the state for medical care — including those in prison and immigration detention — will have access to comprehensive treatment associated with gender transition, including all necessary surgical care?”

“Taxpayer-funded gender reassignment surgeries for illegal immigrants: you really cannot get more radical than that,” a Vance campaign spokesperson remarked, according to Fox News Digital. “Tim Ryan has spent this entire campaign lying to Ohioans about his record and trying to convince them he’s a moderate. The truth is that he’s just a far-left, woke liberal who wants to waste taxpayer money on insane ideas like this. He doesn’t belong anywhere near the U.S. Senate.”

Ryan’s political positions are far left enough that fellow Democrat and auditor for Ohio’s Hamilton County, Dusty Rhodes, torched the Senate candidate in a Friday opinion piece for the Cincinnati Enquirer entitled, “I’m an elected Democrat, and I know Tim Ryan is a fraud.”

Rhodes therein accused Ryan of aligning with the Democratic party’s “radicals in D.C.”

“Here’s the truth: Tim Ryan is not who he says he is. He votes in 100% lockstep with Pelosi and Biden in Congress. At every opportunity, he follows the orders of the D.C. establishment. That’s the path of least resistance that far too many of our ‘leaders’ fall into − we all deserve better,” wrote Rhodes.

“Ryan can run all the slick TV commercials he wants, but he can’t hide from his own record. He’s called for a ban on gas-powered cars, forcing you to buy an electric vehicle, even if you don’t want to. He pledged to free a million criminals from our nation’s prisons and to shred the bail system that keeps dangerous offenders off of our streets,” Rhodes continued.

He further noted that Ryan was counted among Democrats who “blocked efforts that would have required doctors to deliver life-saving care to delivered babies who survive botched abortions.”

“None of this is ‘moderate.’ It’s far more radical than Roe v. Wade, and goes far further than abortion laws in Europe. Ryan’s barbaric abortion regime would align us with the likes of China and North Korea − and he wants your taxpayer dollars to fund it all.”

Ryan’s political opponent in his Senate run, J.D. Vance, was endorsed by former President Trump as well as U.S. Sen. Josh Hawley, who said “JD represents the future of the conservative movement, as a coalition of working people, families, and people of faith, welcoming every American who believes in this nation.”

Vance is the author of the bestselling memoir  Hillbilly Elegy: A Memoir of a Family and a Culture in Crisis, which recounted his tumultuous journey from poverty in the hills of Ohio to Yale Law School.
